Tough Competition: Jose Sway Fire and Desire Penala Gone: American Idol Recap- 03-05-06

On Thursday night, much to my dismay Jose Sway Penala was ousted from the competition. As predicted, so were Brenna Gethers, Heather Cox and David Radford!
The surprise for me was Sway, who I thought should have made the top twelve. However, upon reflection of how America is voting, it seems to me that the American Idol voters are getting tough!!!!! This year’s competition is very strong and in fact is going to be a tough competition. This week the guys owned the competition and in fact ran away with it.The talent for both the girls and guys is so strong and on equal level, that each competitor will have to bring it each week and give over 200 percent! Simply, American idol voters are ousting the competitors that have had a bad night, or that their talent is not in league with the rest of the competitors. The same people that were eliminated, (for the exception of one) may of made the final twelve in previous competitions. Not this year! American Idol is experiencing more viewers, which is resulting in more voters. As well as a diverse viewing audience in terms of age!!! It is not just teenagers watching this show! It is families; it is professional people, adults beyond the perceived teen target audience that American Idol anticipates, adult ages ranging from 30 into retirement ages.
Music is a hearing force, “everybody loves music”, and the only thing that separates people is their choice and category of music. Some like pop, soul, blues, old time rock and roll, rock, jazz, rap, funk, country, new age, classical. As well as different era’s of music such as the crooners, of the late greats like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, ect…
My predictions for the final twelve spots are: Paris, Lisa, Aayla, Mandisa, Katherine and Kelly. For the guys it is Taylor, Elliott, Ace, Gedeon, Bucky, and Chris.
As cute as Kevin is, I think this week will be the end of the road for him and David Maker. In comparison to the other male talent.
However, if any of the strongest competitors have a bad night, they could very well be eliminated this week, simply because America has gotten tough. After five years, the American Idol viewers expect more!!!! Then mediocre, substandard and just passable performances. For example when the guys came out, they raised the energy levels, people found themselves, tapping their feet, snapping their fingers, dancing and singing along! This will get votes.
Sway Penola, did not lose based on looks!!! As Simon suggested!!!! It was based on he had a bad night. I wish Simon would not try to ruin, handicap injure and hinder a perception of a show that is clearly about music and singing talent and ability. The viewers are watching American Idol because of the common bond of their love for music. Period. Simon’s ongoing issues and hang-up on a person’s looks or weight is not necessary! His issues of the above do nothing to enhance the show! Simon needs to take a good look around of the music greats, past greats and deceased greats. Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, ect… (all music greats and icons) all have fluctuated in weight in their careers, it did not!!! reduce their popularity or the selling of their music to the public or their fans.
Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, John Lennon ect… are and were not the best-looking guys on earth, however!!! they were/are talented!! this is why they sold millions of copies of their music. Period! Celine Dion refuses to have surgery on her nose, which is considered rather large! She feels that she was born with this nose, and her nose feature has nothing!! to do with her greatness in music! Period. Frankly, the viewers of American Idol have lived enough that they can relate to any outer appearance, because they have either experienced this in their lifetime themselves! On the other hand, everyone at least has one family member that has the same features that Simon routinely takes issue with.
People buy music, simply becaues they enjoy the song, relate to the song and enjoy the artist! We do not! buy music based on the cover at all or what the person looks like! Does Simon think that people are thinking when they buy music the following: Love the song, but he or she does not live up to my standard on how they should look. So therefore, I will not buy the song/ album. No, we buy it because we love the tune, and want to have a copy of it, so we can listen to it over and over again. Period! Frankly, Simon is advertising a form of discrimination when he makes these uncalled for and unfounded remarks. Simon himself was overweight at one time. He of all people having that experience should know, it does not stop a person from being SUCCESSFUL!
Thought processes of any form of discrimination has been stupid from the onset! It only serves to feed the ego’s of those that are actually weak in character and personality! Western society has taken great strides to reduce and eliminate this way of thinking and frankly, I don’t think that Simon should push onward and forward on a show, that can influence people such as children and teens viewing it. Society has worked to hard to achieve were we are today. Simon has to also realize that as much as he is crowned with the title Mr.Nasty, that there are many idol fans that LOOK UP TO HIM! which he is why he needs to knock off this ongoing hang-up that he has adopted in life!
The Highlight of the night was seeing Carrie Underwood perform, as usual, Carrie looked stunning! Carrie showed the competitors what it took to be an American Idol. Carrie performed for us her country hit “Jesus take the wheel” was at the top of the country charts for six weeks as number 1 and sold over 2 million copies. If you note Carrie sings country, we have Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken to thank for asserting themselves and upon their wins and runner up status, refusing to sing music that they were uncomfortable with. It was in fact Rueben and Clay’s joint refusal that paved the way for other idol winners in Fantasia and Carrie to be able to sing their music comfort zone.
Ryan looked very, very, very, dapper and suave, while Paula seemed to be trying to be funny! It did not work well for Paula, as many have questioned what was wrong with her that night! I do not think she was drinking or on drugs, I just do not think that Paula is cut out for comedy! In addition, it would have been nice for Paula to stay on course and answer the questions that Ryan asked!
